cats, dogs, & design

Being a marketing intern for the Kitsap Humane Society was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It was through that position I felt a call for design. Using my creativity to better the world around me is what I truly love to do. I was an intern for four months, and during that time, I worked on a variety of projects within a team. The graphics team consisted of two employees, myself, and another intern. There was a lot of work to be done, but we knuckled down and produced some amazing designs. And when the going got tough, the office dog was always there to lift our spirits.

staying on brand

Having to follow a set of brand guidelines might sound restricting - but I think it’s a welcome challenge. How can I adapt my skills and personal vision to fit the company’s needs? Design is all about solving problems and communicating ideas to the world at large. If we as a company aren’t on the same page, then we can’t send a coherent message.

Petswalk

PETSWALK is an annual race put on by the Kitsap Humane Society. It is one of their biggest events and it was in need of some rebranding. My fellow intern and classmate, Elizabeth Hubbard, did a phenomenal job with this, and you can see her work here. I collaborated with another team member to create some merchandise we could distribute to the runners. She provided the flat sketch of each animal and I was responsible for dressing them and cleaning up the details. Because of the small size of the button itself, we had to simplify the overall designs.

My rewarding experience with the Kitsap Humane Society launched me onto my current career path. Design can solve problems big and small, but no matter the size, the impact is what counts. I like to think our work makes the world just a little more beautiful.
